The sun is shining, it's warm outside, and you're itching to get out of the house. There's only one problem: lack of time. Want to have some fun this summer weekend, but don't have two whole days? Can't afford a trip to the mountains or the water? No problem! We've gathered a few options for a unique way to spend your weekend!
Escape rooms (and other such)
Escape room fun is usually for couples or groups of up to five people. The idea is simple – you're locked in a certain space (usually a single room, but it can vary) and you have to… escape from there. I mean, escape, run away. It seems simple… but escape rooms are created by people with disturbed minds , who, as kids, watched Batman and cheered for the Riddler. We know. We're among them.
That's why the exit will be led through a series of more or less bizarre puzzles, riddles, allusions, and clues. All in the appropriate setting: hospital, military, execution, or otherwise.
How do you choose the right escape room for yourself? Lockme.pl can help – a place online where almost all escape rooms in Poland are rated. The atmosphere, difficulty level, price, number of people – there are many filtering options :).
And what's with all this "other stuff"? More and more rooms of a different type are being created. Have you heard of rage rooms ? No? They're places where you can let off steam by smashing everything inside. A baseball bat, a crowbar, a hammer... these are just the beginning of the arsenal. Be sure to check out what's going on in Katowice's first rage room – Demolka (edit 2022: unfortunately, it's no longer operational, but if you open one – let us know).
Industrial explorations
Most of our team comes from the Katowice conurbation, so the topic of industrial exploration is close to our hearts. Many (post-)industrial buildings in our region have been brilliantly adapted – some have been transformed into galleries and "regular" museums. It's great to visit, especially during a festival (e.g., Beer Fest).
We especially recommend those "museums" that reveal their industrial secrets. You can learn what a mine looks like from the inside at Guido and the Maciej Shaft in Zabrze, and the Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry. There, too (at the Tarnowskie Góry Museum), you can sail underground on boats! In Karchowice, you'll learn where your tap water comes from, and in Żywiec, you'll discover the secrets of beer production. Best of all, everywhere you go, you'll have direct, tangible contact with industrial history, not just its reenactment. You can find a full list of industrial gems HERE.
Additionally (for those who appreciate adrenaline rushes), there's always the opportunity to explore abandoned structures. Often, crumbling warehouses and silos, abandoned office buildings, and… churches (seriously!) have a certain apocalyptic beauty. Of course, we only admire them from the outside :), because most of them carry warnings about the threat of collapse and prohibition against entry…
If you're from other parts of Poland , don't worry. Look around your neighborhood for abandoned places. A visit there can be a truly fascinating experience. And if there aren't any such places in your area , we invite you to Silesia and the Zagłębie region. We travel to you with events, so you can come visit us for a visit :).
Trying something new
A few free hours on the weekend are the perfect opportunity to let loose – try something completely new. Have you seen photos of your friends doing something awesome? It's time to share not only the photos but also the experiences!
Shooting range. It's a great way to experience what we usually see on screen. Training, instructor supervision, gun in hand, loading, and... miss :). Shooting itself isn't as easy as it seems! However, if live firearms scare you away, you can try something a little more old-fashioned – we invite you to learn archery.
Do you know how to ride a bike? Great. Then it's time to learn how to ride something a bit bigger and... lively. We invite you to ride horses. We don't mean just riding on a lunge line. First riding lessons don't take long or cost much, and they give you a lot of experience with these charming and noble animals :).
Speaking of getting around , did you know that over 70% of this planet is water? Considering that, there's a pretty good chance you'll have to navigate it someday. Perhaps it's worth equipping yourself with a minimum of skills in case of a zombie apocalypse? In most waters, you can rent a sailboat yourself (ideally with someone who has a license and can show you the ropes). If that's not an option, consider kayaking. Any chance to escape the living dead will be a good idea.
