What's making Archery Tag so increasingly popular in Poland? It's simple! It brilliantly combines two popular and intriguing forms of organized combat – the popular sport of paintball and archery! But what sets Archery Tag apart from the two aforementioned activities is its significantly greater safety. Getting hit with an arrow isn't painful, and as the name of this popular game suggests, someone is "tagged" with an arrow. What counts here are fun, adrenaline, reflexes, cunning, tactics, and teamwork.
The basic equipment of an archer in Archery Tag is:
- professional equipment: a bow with the appropriate profile and string tension;
- arrows finished with a special overlay – a soft sponge (so-called "soft tips");
- eye and face protection masks (similar to those used in paintball) and forearm protectorsto avoid abrasions from the bowstring when releasing the arrows.
A short training course in using the bow and in learning the rules of the game is also necessary.
What exactly is the fun of Archery Tag?
It involves two teams of about six players, each tasked with "shooting" as many members of the opposing team as possible. The first team to eliminate all opponents wins. To avoid being shot, players can hide behind symmetrically placed inflatable obstacles called bunkers or bases. To make things more challenging, the game can be varied in various ways. Often, in addition to shooting at their opponents, teams also have to shoot at an opposing target placed in their part of the field or clearing. The team that hits all the target elements (by punching holes in it) first wins. Another way to spice up the game is to capture a flag, which is mounted in the center of the field. The first team to capture the flag and return it to base unshot (!) wins! There are many ways to spice up the game, and it all depends on the abilities and preferences of the players involved.
