This year marks exactly 100 years since Poland regained its independence after 123 years of captivity. To mark this occasion, a series of events will be held starting this spring to commemorate this momentous anniversary. There will be galas, patriotic music concerts (and others), parades, speeches, picnics, displays of military equipment, and much, much more. The common denominator of most of the upcoming events is the passive nature of participation.
It's an open secret that we remember best what we actively participate in. Therefore, we propose several events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland's independence, which will allow you to celebrate this holiday in a unique way.
The History Quiz is aimed primarily at school children and youth. The entire event takes the form of a talk show or game show. The gathered youth are divided into groups and teams. The event host then briefs the participants on the tournament rules.
The competition phase runs smoothly thanks to questions appearing on a large screen (projector) along with a timer. Groups have a strictly defined time to submit their answers using a special system.
To ensure the event captures the audience's attention, we anticipate a wide variety of questions. The central theme of the questions prepared by our historian will naturally be independence. The format of the questions, however, will often be surprising – not only will there be identification of characters based on photos and video, but also audio. We have also prepared several special tasks that participants will be asked to complete with the support of the audience.
Of course, plenty of prizes and eternal glory await the best teams!
A quiz can be a form of competition between classes, schools, and even cities! We can organize the event in multiple stages to determine the best groups.
The Independence City Game is aimed at anyone looking to actively spend time outdoors. Those who want to test their skills in competition with others and learn something new. Participants' age is irrelevant. The game is suitable for families with children, grandparents with grandchildren, students, and groups of friends.
The city transforms into a game board. With the signal to start the game, we travel back in time to 1918. The war is drawing to a close. Euphoria fills the streets. Independence! But something is wrong. Someone or something is missing for history to unfold as we know it from textbooks. Players embark on a journey to find the missing piece and save Independence Day.
Throughout the game, participants will face a variety of tasks. At the very beginning, they must decipher the map and establish a plan of action. From there, it's all downhill. Deciphering secret messages. Negotiating with distrustful townspeople. Fitness tests for Legionnaires. And much more. Time is ticking away, and they still need to make it to the gathering point before returning to our own time.
Back in 2018, we'll find out if the participants succeeded, and there will be plenty to celebrate. If so, prizes await the best. And eternal glory as heroes who saved Independence awaits everyone.
HISTORICAL ESCAPE ROOM
An escape room is a room in name only. It could just as easily be called a riddle tent. However, the most important thing here isn't the name, but the fact that it can be set up both indoors—a city hall, library, school, or hotel—and outdoors—in a park, market square, or forest clearing.
Within a dozen or so square meters of space, bounded by four walls, we create a Collector's Space. For years, the collector has been collecting publications and artifacts related to the history of independent Poland. Books and maps are carefully arranged and sorted on the shelves. A list of items waiting to be cataloged appears on the laptop screen. Next to the computer lies a Maciejówka cap, reputedly belonging to Marshal Piłsudski himself. The space holds other secrets as well.
The collector doesn't like sharing his collection with others. He doesn't like anyone near his collection in his absence. He only tolerates people in whom he sees something valuable. He doesn't bother with others. Only those who solve the mystery hidden among the collection will find recognition in his eyes.
An escape room is a perfect solution as a permanent, recurring or one-time element accompanying Independence Day celebrations.
