Urban games (and in this case, a historical game) typically attract groups of active and creative individuals. These are most often families with children or groups of friends. It just so happens that these are also the target audiences for the initiatives and missions of cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, and educational centers. Why are we writing about this? Because we can reach them effectively.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Silesian Uprisings and Plebiscite, the Silesian Museum has decided to organize a historical game based on the exhibition " Unforgettable. Women during the Uprisings and Plebiscite in Upper Silesia."
This type of game isn't just great fun , allowing us to feel like characters in popular films. A historical game , above all, offers an opportunity to present history in an engaging, intriguing, and tangible way. During the game, participants solve tasks closely related to a given period, and the points on the map they must find are linked to important historical events. In this case, the city is a map where we discover forgotten places and events.
During our game "Unforgettable: Katowice's Women Residents during the Silesian Uprisings," participants searched for locations related to the residences of Katowice women involved in the Silesian Uprisings. They also completed tasks related to the roles women played during the uprisings and the plebiscite.
There could be no shortage of tasks such as:
– preparation of a propaganda poster
– sewing an insurgent armband from a sheet.
– taking on the role of actors from the amateur theatre "Wanda"
– transporting the wounded to a field hospital and dressing the wounds
Participants had the opportunity to take part in various tasks, test their own creativity, and rediscover Katowice and its history from the time of the Silesian Uprisings.
PS. Among the participants was a group who— ATTENTION !—came from SZCZECIN! At the finish line, we learned that they found historical games a fantastic way to explore the city's architecture while learning about its history.
